Mike Kriston, LEED AP
Senior Vice President, Director of Business Development

Mike Kriston is the Senior Vice President and Director of Business Development for McDonald York Building Company. As an executive and a member of the senior leadership team, he is responsible for creating, implementing and providing oversight for all aspects of the company’s business development as well as participating in company strategy development. He drives business growth by building and maintaining contacts with prospective and current clients as well as upstream and downstream partners.

Mike defines success as creating value for a contact, regardless of whether it falls within our realm of construction. He is a big believer in paying it forward and has really come to enjoy the long-term relationships he has built living in the Triangle. As advice to those in the industry, Mike suggests “Have your eyes open for solutions that may not be readily apparent — and realize that every person you come in contact with has intrinsic value and is an opportunity to forge and build a new relationship that you will always cherish moving forward.”

Mike is a relationship builder, always looking for ways to build new partnerships and connections to raise the awareness of McDonald York as the premiere general contractor in the Triangle. He is an experienced construction professional having been in the industry since 1997, and spending the first half of his career in the operations side of the business. He is self-motivated, results-oriented, creative, resourceful, entrepreneurial, highly energetic, and likable. He joined McDonald York in 2008 serving as the Division Manager of McDonald York’s RTP Office. Prior to relocating to the Triangle for McDonald York, Mike served as a superintendent on large building projects in the Mid-Atlantic region with a large national builder.

Mike is a LEED Accredited Professional. He is an active member of NCEDA, CoreNet Global, NAIOP, ULI, and serves on the board of the Durham Chamber of Commerce. Mike is a past board member of the Triangle Chapter of IFMA, and the non-profit SEEDS in Durham and has volunteered his time with many non-profits in the community. He was named 40 under 40 by the Triangle Business Journal in 2018.

Mike graduated from The Catholic University of America with a B. S. in Civil Engineering with a concentration in construction and lives in Durham with his wife and two boys.
