Colleen McDonald Schmidt
Colleen, a 12-year North Carolina resident, has considerable experience in construction and over 14 years’ experience in the security and safety profession in both the public and private arenas. She was Safety Director for McDonald York Building Company. She served for several years as a police officer for the Montgomery County Police Department in Maryland. During that time, she co-founded the department's Domestic Violence Unit.
In 2009, Colleen transitioned to corporate security when she joined Charter Communications (Formerly Time Warner Cable) and in 2017 she joined Corning, Inc, as Manager, Security Operations for North America. In this role, she is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of strategic and tactical planning for the organization's security services and support. This role addresses all aspects of security for the organization's North America businesses.
Colleen holds a B.A. in International Studies from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. She played tennis for Mason, which competed at Division I for NCAA competition. She is an active member of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS). She currently serves on the Board of Directors for McDonald York Building Company. Colleen is an avid fitness enthusiast and has participated in several triathlons, a half marathon and numerous 10K races. Colleen resides in Apex, North Carolina with her husband Steve and their two children, Sami and Garrett.
