Training to Stay Sharp

The best builders are never finished learning. In order to provide the best services, we need the best employees. In part, this comes from hiring the right people. Another part is making sure current employees receive the training they need to keep their skills sharp. McDonald York is committed to retaining and training employees at all levels to foster professional and personal growth.

For this reason, we provide our employees with technical, management, and leadership classes that prepare them for current assignments and help them achieve long-term career goals. Additional informal programs — mentoring groups, seminars, and jobsite tours — ensure that learning is all in a day's work.

Our orientation program was created for new employees to orient them to McDonald York because of the diverse career options in McDonald York and our culture.

The training opportunities available at McDonald York include:

  • Monthly Project Superintendent Training
  • Monthly Foreman/Craftsman Training
  • Project Manager Training held every month

Our Mentoring Program is a program for entry-level new hires. It not only provides information about the construction industry, it works to enhance professional development, facilitate relationships with others at McDonald York, provide the opportunity to interact with industry experts, and help program participants become familiar with the area in which they live and work. The mentors — employees with several years of operations experience — plan monthly educational and social events including trips to local sporting events, area attractions, and cultural activities; progressive jobsite tours; visits with architects and subcontractors; and community service and charity events.
